Mmmm – what to do on a cold Tuesday night? Dine out at one of Adelaide’s most well known pubs, the Feathers Hotel. This relatively large establishment is at the junction of Greenhill Road and Glynburn Road, in the Adelaide suburb of Burnside. So we had a date night at Feathers Hotel, and we want to share our experience with you.
The pub has several dining options, the large “Terrace” Garden Bar that offers alfresco dining with a pub vibe and large TV screens, and then the Greenhouse restaurant which offers dining with a little more of a restaurant feel. There is also the Pavillion cafe, but we elected to have a dinner in the Greenhouse restaurant.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 5, and we were told that the same menu was available in both the Terrace and the Greenhouse. Entering from the large car park, and going past the Sip N Save bottleshop drive-through, we were greeted by the clean and well-laid-out restaurant. There were four uniformed staff, all young girls who were running the bar and restaurant. We were assigned a table and given menus, and asked if we wanted a drink immediately. The friendly waitress was helpful and allowed us to decide the wine that we wanted. We looked at the menu, and were pleased to see a good variety of classic pub fare, with schnitzels for 30 dollars, a few steaks available for 46 or 56 dollars, pizzas for around 26 dollars, and other meal options for around 30 bucks.
We were both immediately drawn to the Churrasco skewers. It is a bit of a gimmick to have the single skewer presented at your table, hanging vertically. We could not agree on chicken or lamb rump, so decided to have both. They were effectively the same, with fresh pita bread and roasted vegetables and chips. The meat was tender and well-flavored, and of course, we decided to share half each.
The restaurant started to fill up, as we tucked into our giant skewers. We were seriously tempted by the desert options, but decided to value our waistlines instead.
Exploring the rest of the establishment, we enjoyed looking at the large wine room. Through the restaurant is an area with sofas an and open fire, serviced by a bar. Just around the corner is a continuation of the bar with four comfortable booths. Looping around further, there is a patio area that is laid out with more tables, just down from the Terrace.
The Terrace is laid out to be suitable to enjoy the latest sporting event, with large screens and bench seating. Even though it is outdoors, the Terrace has a roof to protect from rain, and I’m sure it will be helpful in the summer too. There were some outdoor heaters, and many people looking comfortable even though it was a cold night.
It is relatively close to where we live, so we will return to sample other parts of the menu.
