One of the coolest bars in Tallinn is hidden and hard to find. As a part of our visit to the Baltic States, within our grand Northern Europe tour, we were in Tallinn for a few days.
Finding the Koht Bar in Tallinn
Google maps shows the location clearly, but when you physically go there, it is very difficult to find! There is no sign outside, and even when you navigate to the back lane where the front door is located, there is no sign on the door.
If you go to Lai, the street has a bottle shop called Ōllepood Pothouse, and a small lane way to the left of the beer and wine shop. The little lane looks like a private garage access, but just to the right of this lane is the entrance.

Through a red brown door, which had a piece of paper stuck to it saying “If we are open, we are open”. No name of the bar, but we trusted our gut and opened the door to what seemed like a private residence.
Under the Vaults
Once we entered, we took a step down and found that the Koht bar is in a series of vaulted chambers, with a bar at one end, and a fireplace in one corner.
The Koht bar has old sofas and comfortable seating, and board games for entertainment. We enjoyed the music and the range of draft beers. We were also entertained by the range of foreign bank notes stuck to the ceiling above the bar. We recommend you bring some notes to donate from your home country!
