Always looking for new hiking places, we decided to check out the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park. The park is south of the city and is huge, covering several suburbs including Flagstaff Hill, Blackwood, and Bellevue Heights. It caters for both hikers and mountain bike riders. There are several places you can park and enter. On this occasion we parked on Edgar Street Bedford Park and walked down a steep slope into the gorge. Check out the map to find all the places you can enter.

We took the Tillite Track, Gorge Trail and Makkibirra Track. The River Trail was tempting – I wanted to get closer to the Sturt River Flood Control Dam, but this trail continued away from our starting point, the afternoon was getting on, and we had already been hiking for about 90 minutes. We might try to get closer to the dam next time.

We loved that a large portion of the path followed the river, and crossed it several times. There are couple of places where we needed to scramble over rocks, which we also loved.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Adelaide to hike, and its size means that we can return several times and never do the same hike twice.
