We love to hike, and we are always looking for new places to explore. Mt Lofty Botanic Park is very close to our home and it seemed silly that we had not been there. So, off we went to check it out.

There are several entrances to choose from, each with its own carpark. The Park is stunning, with various routes to choose from and several themed gardens throughout. If you are not into hiking, there are places to picnic, and you can even have a function in the grounds.

I wanted to see the park in it’s full autumn glory, but we were just a little late for the best of it. I would suggest coming a few weeks earlier, perhaps in mid April. Nevertheless, there was still some stunning colour and I love how the leaves look on the ground. The lake is near the lower carpark and surrounded by lovely grassy areas – perfect for a picnic or a place to while away a few hours reading or people watching.

If you are feeling a little more active, there are several beautiful walking trails. If you are lucky, you might see some of the local wildlife. It is easy to spend several hours exploring the park.

Make sure you give yourself enough time to explore – the park closes at 4pm on weekdays, and on weekends it depends on the season. More information for visitors can be found on their website.
