There are plenty of waterfalls to visit in Bali. We chose to visit Aling Aling, which sits on the north edge of Bali, about a two hour drive from Kuta. It is actually a string of different waterfalls, several of which you can swim in.

We arrived at Aling Aling after what seemed like hours of winding through the exquisite mountain passes. During the drive, we saw lots of wild monkeys just next to the road. On the way, we stopped to go to the toilet. Hot tip – toilets outside of major cities are set into the floor and do not have toilet paper (so carry tissues with you and girls, learn how to squat)! Eventually, we came to a parking area where our driver Wayan relaxed with other drivers, and then we paid our 125,000 IDR admission and began descending to the waterfalls.

A little hike down through the rainforest – luckily on concrete steps. We recommend plastic shoes, because there are submerged rocks and not everywhere has a path. The view was great, but what we saw below was even better.

The main aim of seemed to be to jump off the top of the falls, so we decided to do that too! Our limit was 5m though. Others jumped from the 10m and even 15m heights!

The water was cool but not cold (very refreshing in the hot and humid weather), and the facilities were simple but not insufficient. No toilets by the water, but there were changing rooms for the modest.

This was so much fun and definitely worth the whole day round trip! Stunning scenery and perfect in the hot weather.
